Exam 920-804: NCTE - Converged IP Networks

If you have a number of networks where you converged them together and use VoIP and multimedia applications on those networks, you need someone to take their technical knowledge of computers and networks, as well as VoIP technology, to be able to plan, design, and deploy the VoIP and multimedia applications successfully across the converged network. This technician will need to know about security in the VoIP environment and how to handle emergencies as they may come up. To do all this the technician must pass the 920-804: NCTE - Converged IP Networks exam.

If you are the technician for your company, you need to prepare for the test. In order to do so, it would be a good idea to know what is covered under the exam. Below is an overview of the test:

As a note, if you passed the 920-802 IP Convergence exam, you won’t have to take this exam. This is because the 920-802 exam will count as credit toward the VoIP Expert certification.

In the Security in the VoIP Environment section you will have to describe the many types of firewalls in existence, along with the topologies. You will have define what a VPN is and explain how to use it, as well as how the service can be beneficial to a network. You will be responsible for discussing authentication and how it works. Other services you will need to discuss will be tunneling protocols, SSL VPN and NAT. In the Emergency Services in the VoIP Environment section you will be responsible for analyzing customer emergency services to verify that a particular VoIP solution will work. In the Performing a Network Assessment section you will describe the steps required to access the health of the VoIP network, as well as determine the correct ways to create a new installation of the existing network. You will also describe how to use network assessment tools.

As a technician, you owe it to yourself to take and pass the 920-804 exam. By taking this test and passing it, you will not only gain the skills to work on networks that involve this technology, but you will also appear more valuable to potential employers
