Exam 3X0-203: Samba Resource Sharing
If your company has Linux installed on their network, and they also have Samba installed, they will need to have someone capable and qualified to work on such a system, since Samba is about sharing resources. If you happen to already know about Linux, and you have worked with Samba, and you understand fully how Samba is used to share resources on the network, you should get your certification as a Samba technician. To do this you must pass the 3X0-203: Samba Resource Sharing exam.
By taking and passing the 3X0-203 exam, you provide proof that you have the knowledge and skills necessary to install and configure Samba from source code and by using package managers. You will also need to show how to maintain and secure a Samba server. As a technician, you will need to demonstrate you know how to work with Samba by doing installation, configuration, Microsoft Windows client configuration on Samba, using Samba utilities, and provide performance as well as troubleshooting skills.
To pass the exam, you will need to know Samba’s history and purpose. You will need to know how to enable SWAT, and show how to configure Samba’s global, home, printer, and general shares settings. You will need to explain the role of a Primary Domain Controller (PDC) and how Samba can be used as one. You will also need to explain the role of a Backup Domain Controller (BDC) and a WINS server, and how to make Samba one of each.
